本書是中等職業教育數控專業規劃教材，是根據教育部數控技能型緊缺人才培養培訓方案的指導思想和最新的數控專業教學計劃編寫的。本書結合專業課程，圍繞數控應用技術，主要介紹了一般機械常識（機械零部件、常用工具、量具、機床），電工、電子常識（電流、電路、元器件及電氣設備），自動控制的原理及主要元器件，在此基礎上著重介紹了數控應用技術（數控原理、數控機床結構、設備操作）專業知識。為適應當前中等職業教育的特點，本書突出實用性，注重針對性。此外，在課文和閱讀材料中除了專業技術知識外，還選編了一定數量的科普教材，體現了趣味性，知識性。本書可作為中等職業學校數控應用技術專業及近機類教材用書，也可作為培養專業技術人員參考用書。
