n.常見的事物：Air travel is a commonplace nowadays.現(xiàn)在坐飛機是平常事。
common，ordinary，commonplace，general，usual這些形容詞均含有“普通的，普遍的”之意。common多用于指物，側(cè)重很常見，不稀奇；ordinary用于物，指每天發(fā)生，十分平淡無奇；用于人，指無特別之處，很一般；commonplace強調(diào)缺少新意；general語氣強于common，側(cè)重大多如此，很少有例外情況；usual指常見常聞和常做的事或舉動，強調(diào)慣常性。

vt.①局限于，限制：We?ll confine our discussion to the main issue.我們將只討論主要問題。

deception n.欺騙，騙局；deceit n.欺騙，欺詐
cheat，deceive，trick，fool這些動詞均含有“欺騙”之意。cheat普通用詞，指用蒙蔽他人的手段取得所需之物，尤多指在贏利的買賣中欺騙人；deceive最普通用詞，指用虛假外表使人信以為真，或蓄意歪曲事實，或造成錯誤印象使人上當(dāng)受騙；trick指用陰謀詭計等騙得信任或得到所需之物；fool指把別人當(dāng)傻瓜，愚弄欺騙別人。
1.12 defy ［d?'fa?］
v.①(公然)違抗，反抗：The defiant child openly defied his parents.這個叛逆的孩子公然違抗他的父母。//defy the law蔑視法律
②挑，激：I defy you to confess your love to her.我倒要看看你敢不敢向她表白。
③使成為不可能：Eat in measure and defy the doctor.吃得適度，不找大夫。
defiant a.違抗的，挑戰(zhàn)的；defiance n.挑釁，蔑視
oppose，defy，resist這些動詞均含有“反抗、抵抗”之意。oppose普通用詞，可表不同程度的抵抗；defy指公開地、勇敢地反對或抵抗，有時含公然挑釁之意；resist指積極地反抗一種攻擊、暴力或誘惑。
