《21世紀大學新英語長篇閱讀》共分五冊，旨在 幫助學生進行系統的、有針對性的快速閱讀（長篇閱 讀）訓練，掌握基本閱讀技能，培養良好閱讀習慣， 提高閱讀效率。選材方面，我們力求所選文章兼備時 代性、信息性、趣味性以及可讀性，語言難度適中， 其體裁和題材體現多樣性，話題涵蓋中西文化、教育 、生活、媒介、歷史、科技、哲學、文學等。每冊書 后附有本冊練習的參考答案供師生參考。
本冊為第4冊，由劉金玲、方衛、王聿瑋主編。
本書共分八個單元，每個單元由Passage 1、Passage 2和Passage 3三篇文章組成。Passage 1和Passage 2供課堂使用，Passage 3供學生課外閱讀。
