《實用科技英語教程(第2版)》是2006年湖北省大學(xué)英語教學(xué)研究項目的預(yù)期研究成果之一,該項目為2009年湖北省大學(xué)英語教學(xué)改革研究項目的優(yōu)秀結(jié)題項目。全書由十個單元組成,每個單元的內(nèi)容分為三個部分,第一個部分是Leadill,第二個部分是。Further development,第三個部分是Cornltprehensive progress。《實用科技英語教程(第2版)》練習(xí)設(shè)計的方法豐富多彩,聽、說、讀、寫、譯等語言技能的訓(xùn)練圍繞同一主題展開,體現(xiàn)了綜合語言技能的培養(yǎng)手段。
《實用科技英語教程(第2版)》是針對高職高專理工科學(xué)生編寫的必修課教材,亦適用于科技英語愛好者學(xué)習(xí)。作為英語教學(xué)改革的優(yōu)秀研究成果,也可供英語教材建設(shè)和教學(xué)法研究的專家、學(xué)者和廣大英語教師作為參考。
根據(jù)英國文化委員會1994一1995年進行的一項名為。English2000的大型調(diào)查,2l世紀英語教學(xué)將會發(fā)生很大的變化,最根本的變化是“將來的英語學(xué)習(xí)不再是單純的英語學(xué)習(xí)”,“將來的英語教學(xué)是越來越多地與某一個方面的專業(yè)知識或某一個學(xué)科結(jié)合起來”。我國的研究結(jié)果也表明,社會對專門的外語類人才的需求會逐漸減少,對復(fù)合型人才的需求會越來越大,這意味著未來無論是英語專業(yè)的建設(shè)還是基礎(chǔ)英語的教學(xué)都將會面臨重大轉(zhuǎn)折,“專門用途英語教學(xué)將成為21世紀的英語教學(xué)的主流”(劉潤清1996)。
本教材吸收了國內(nèi)外英語教材編寫和練習(xí)設(shè)計的原則和方法,體現(xiàn)了我國高等職業(yè)技術(shù)教育課程設(shè)計和課程建設(shè)的最新理念,能力目標設(shè)計合理、清晰,十分有利于交際教學(xué)法的實施。
本教材的編寫具有以下特點。交際任務(wù)和交際活動的設(shè)計十分易于操作,教師可以充分利用話題的趣味性、時代性和真實性,以課堂討論的方式導(dǎo)入主題,采用“頭腦風(fēng)暴法”開展課堂教學(xué)。詞匯表的布局吸收了國內(nèi)外教材的設(shè)計優(yōu)點,醒目方便,重視以人為本。第2版教材增設(shè)了自我評價的部分,有利于增加學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)單詞的自主性。練習(xí)設(shè)計的方法豐富多彩,而且聽、說、讀、寫、譯等語言技能的訓(xùn)練圍繞同一主題展開,體現(xiàn)了綜合語言技能的培養(yǎng),科學(xué)對待語言輸入和輸出的關(guān)系,努力做到兩者相輔相承,互相促進,以期達到語言學(xué)習(xí)的最佳效果。主題選擇符合真實交際的原則,有利于實現(xiàn)語言學(xué)習(xí)的正遷移。基本采用真實選材,所以限于各種主題自身的特點,不同單元的教學(xué)內(nèi)容如詞匯和閱讀文章在難度上略有差異,對于有些難度較大的材料,我們嘗試通過不同形式的練習(xí)設(shè)計起到循序漸進的作用,喚起問題意識,激發(fā)學(xué)習(xí)興趣,增加學(xué)習(xí)的成就感。交際活動和任務(wù)以及語言技能訓(xùn)練的練習(xí)均為自行設(shè)計,教材編寫的很多設(shè)想和創(chuàng)意來源于教學(xué)實踐的感悟和反思,另外本書還采用了部分學(xué)生的原創(chuàng)繪畫作品,在使用中受到了學(xué)生的極大歡迎。本教材的編寫為英語教材建設(shè)領(lǐng)域和教學(xué)法的研究提供了真實而富有價值的參考資料,銳意創(chuàng)新和大膽嘗試的精神難能可貴,這也正是這本教材獨具魅力的價值所在。我們更期望能籍此機會拋磚引玉,與志同道合的同仁切磋共勉,為我國高等職業(yè)教育英語教學(xué)的改革和英語課程建設(shè)、教材建設(shè)貢獻自己的聰明才智。

The dawn of the new age——The Computer Era——glows before us with the promise of new and improvedways of thinking, living and working. The amount of information in the world is said to be doubling every six to seven years. The only way to keep up with these in creasedamounts of data and information is to understand howcomputers work and the ability to control them for aparticular purpose.
A computer can be defined as an electronic dataprocessing device, capable of accepting data, applying aprescribed set of instructions to the data, and displaying in some manner or form. Any configuration of the devicesthat are interconnected and are programmed to operate is acomputer system. The computer is said to have literallyrevolutionized the way one person does his job or a wholemultinational organization operates their businesses.Together with this reason and many more, computers are considered more than just an essential piece of fancyequipment. Whether or not people know anything about it,they invoke computers in everyday lives when they make abank withdrawal, buy groceries at the supermarket and even when they drive a car. Today, millions of people arepurchasing fully functional personal computers forindividual reasons. In their homes, people use variousforms of computer technology for writing memos, for keeping track of bank accounts, for communication with friends and associates, for accessing knowledge, forpurchasing goods and many other countless tasks.
