交通工程學是典型的新興交叉學科,交通工程作為國家的“生命血液循環系統”涵蓋了廣泛的工程應用領域。本書是美國英文原版教材,由 Pearson Education公司2004年出版第3版。原版教材共27章,除第1章交通工程概述外分為4個部分:交通系統組成及其特性、交通研究及要點、高速公路和鄉村公路系統的應用、城市道路系統的應用。考慮到中國的實際隋況,我們將第1章及前兩部分作為基礎分冊,而后兩部分作為應用分冊,兩分冊分別出版,而且征得原版作者和出版公司的同意,在部分章后補充了相應的中國交通現狀及發展。這兩個分冊均可作為高等學校交通類專業的教材,也可供交通運輸工程領域的研究人員及工程技術人員學習參考。
本書為應用分冊,內容包括高速公路和多車道公路的通行能力與服務水平分析、高速公路及多車道公路的交織及分流合流、雙向雙車道鄉村公路、高速公路及鄉村公路的信號標志;交叉口控制概述、交叉口信號控制基本原理、信號配時與設計基礎、交叉口設計元素及方案、實際信號控制和檢測、信號控制交叉口分析、信號控制交叉口分析的應用、無信號控制交叉口分析、干線及網絡的信號協調、干線性能分析、干線規劃與設計、城市道路網絡交通規劃與運營等。
本書主要從交通工程的應用方面按通行能力和服務水平的主線敘述,對交通工程的交通規劃設計及管理控制的相關概念和整體系統進行了全面概述,分高速公路及鄉村公路系統的應用和城市道路系統應用兩個部分,本書為英文版,主要適用于研究生和廣大工程技術人員參考,同時也可用于本科生交通控制與管理及規劃的專業教學。
