本教材是通過調(diào)研，在理論研究的基礎(chǔ)上，針對當(dāng)前國內(nèi)藝術(shù)類高等院校缺少適用的英語教材的現(xiàn)狀編寫而成的。依據(jù)語言學(xué)習(xí)和專業(yè)知識相結(jié)合的原則，教材中所選文章包含有大量的專業(yè)詞匯、詞組和專業(yè)用語，學(xué)生一方面可以學(xué)到很多英語語言知識，同時還可以學(xué)到很多的藝術(shù)專業(yè)知識，如：室內(nèi)裝飾、景觀設(shè)計、會展設(shè)計、中國陶瓷、中國園林、中外服裝、中外繪畫、數(shù)碼攝影、工藝禮品、動漫制作、首飾品保養(yǎng)、藝術(shù)品鑒定、編織品簡介等。此外，本教材精心編寫了形式多樣的練習(xí)，適度而典型，實用而有效，有利于學(xué)生對語言基礎(chǔ)知識的掌握和專業(yè)能力的培養(yǎng)。為方便教師備課和教學(xué)，充分調(diào)動學(xué)生自主學(xué)習(xí)的積極性并培養(yǎng)其自學(xué)能力，同時還編寫了與教材配套的《藝術(shù)英語》學(xué)習(xí)指導(dǎo)，配有各單元的課文、閱讀材料和背景資料的譯文及練習(xí)答案。
