《普通高等教育國家級重點教材?21世紀大學英語視聽說教程(第3冊)》的主要內容是：Comprehension of theText練習可在課文講解后做，也可結合課文的講解進行。這一練習采用問答式，目的主要是誘導學生開口。Vocabulary練習旨在幫助學生掌握英語常用詞和詞組的用法。WordBuildin9練習幫助學生熟悉現代英語的主要構詞法并熟練掌握一些最常用的前綴和后綴，借以擴大詞匯量。為提高語言的應用能力，在第三冊練習中，增設了Usethe words in thebox一欄。該練習結合A篇課文的內容，或提供提示或提出問題，要求學生利用已學詞匯，結合自己的想象，自由發揮來完成練習。第三冊還增設WordPowerGames，這部分練習是建筑在語義場的理論基礎上，幫助學生擴大四、六級詞匯。Structure練習要求學生熟練掌握一些常用的英語句型，以提高學生的寫作能力。Cloze練習根據課文編寫而成，既可幫助學生進一步掌握課文內容，又可使他們復習鞏固剛剛學過的常用詞和詞組。Translation分為英譯漢與漢譯英兩種練習。英譯漢主要選擇朗誦段落譯成漢語；漢譯英為句子翻澤，作為課后的書面作業。通過句子翻譯要求學生掌握一些常用句型及常用詞和詞組的用法。ReadingAnalysis和Structured Writin9兩者相輔相成。ReadingAnalysis主要分析篇章結構上的特點，并要求學生也對文章的結構進行分析。Structured Writin9則在ReadingAnalysis的基礎上，模仿課文的結構進行寫作練習。第一、二冊重點介紹段落結構與寫作，第三冊介紹A篇課文整篇結構，而短文寫作上則只要求模仿某一寫作技能進行練習。
