本教材共15個單元，每個單元由課文(Text)、閱讀材料(Reading Material) 和附錄（Supplement）3部分構成。內容以建筑工程為主線，按照項目的建造順序，由淺入深，系統選編了建筑工程、工程項目管理等方面的英文文獻共計45篇。為便于學生自學，每篇課文配有單詞和詞組表，并對課文的難點做必要的注釋，并配有與課文相對應的練習， 如問答、填空、英譯漢與漢譯英等。為拓寬讀者知識面，在每篇課文后面安排的兩篇與課文內容相近的閱讀材料，具有一定的難度，供讀者課后閱讀。每篇課文后配有科技英語翻譯和寫作指南，以培養和提高讀者的閱讀、翻譯和寫作的能力和技巧。同時，本教材還突出了專業英語口語的訓練，在每篇課文后面插入了施工現場實用英語，介紹在涉外工程中常用的口語，供有意提高自身專業英語口語的讀者參照。全書最后附有專業英語常用詞綴和土木工程專業詞匯，供查閱。本教材選材廣泛，圖文并茂，實用性強。本書為高職高專、中等職業學校土建類專業學生的專業英語教材，也可作為同等英語程度的建筑技術人員的參考書，還可供英語愛好者閱讀參考。
